A Sheriff for the People
Sgt. John Q. Williams is a supervisor and instructor with the ACCPD Career Development and Training Unit. He is responsible for helping coordinate training for all newly hired officers, as well as training in overcoming bias, community-oriented policing, and de-escalation for all police employees. He was recently moved to this position after formerly serving as a detective leading investigations related to domestic violence and missing person cases. He is running for Sheriff on a platform that would increase equity in our criminal justice system, and also make the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office more accessible and transparent. John believes that a community can never successfully arrest its way out of social issues like mental illness, cyclical poverty, and systemic discrimination.
